Are you runing x86-64 ? how the hell did you get eve to run on that ? I get it installed, but then it complains about directx version and no matter what I tried it stayed that way.
I did not yet try ABI=x86 wine compilation, but I guess it won't do anyway.

Hi all
After trying wine+eve on my system with pre 1.0 versions of wine and never getting past splash screen, I gave it a try wit wine 1.1.0. To my surprise, I got past the splash screen to login screen.
However there is a big issue I get: screen corruption. When eve loads (splash screen displays ok), my screen is split in 2 halves with identical content nad garbled. I can make out what is displayed but with some difficulty and the split screen is not funny.
I tried even without compiz (did not yet try plain X without any wm) and it is the same. It seems that wine initializes the OpenGL drivers with some nonsense.
Having 2 compiz cubes spin on the same display is however a fun view :-)
I tried the Direct3D registry keys but they make no difference. I even tried to disabled GLSL so it goes over ARB shaders but still the same result. Also FastTLS setting in xorg.conf has no effect, direct rendering is enabled.
System is:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1GB RAM ATI Radeon X1650XT (8.5 driver)
Gentoo 64bit distro.
I have yet to dig into wine debuging, but did anybody see anything similar ? --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

What? You just completely ignored my advice.

Yes I know, but it's the last thing to reinstall (in my case recompile) the whole installation to 32 bit without being reasonably sure it will solve anything.
It seems I am screwed again, there are quite many people complaining about this screen corruption not only in wine (I can even reproduce it in mplayer, tho it clears when I close mplayer). I spend yesterday evening experimenting with different settings, nothing worked ... yet again ... --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

premium content wont work probably with ati cards for the moment u can try to disable it from your EVE prefs.ini to see if the classic content is working for you:
audio=0 bloom=0 hdrEnabled=0 trinityVersion=dx8 voiceenabled=0
Please let us know if u had any success with the classic content (dx8)
PS: by default prefs.ini is located in [YourHomeDir]/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/[YourUsernameHere]/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/[PathToYourEveDir]_tranquility
PS2: also check if your X/opengl is set right (glxinfo say it use direct rendering) and if your wine is set up right
here u can see some useful registy keys: http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys u can modify them by runing regedit
Play special atention at :
DirectDrawRenderer : set it to opengl OffscreenRenderingMode : fbo is told to be best for eve under wine but u can try the other options to see if it make any diference UseGLSL : try to set it to disable to see if it make any diference VideoMemorySize : set your video card mem amount corectly
This is the kind of response I was waiting for, thanks man, I will try those asap.
as for the registry keys, I tried those already, no difference. It's the prefs.ini stuff I was after since the client does actualy start, but with the garbled screen I cannot change graphics settings in the client.

After doing everything recommended by various places. I have eve working on standard graphics as well as it can, pretty much perfect except certain weapon effects arent working like lasers.
Although I can't run it with premium graphics, it loads fine and I can fly around and everything, just that no models whatsoever are rendered, no stations, no gates, no ships. All I see is a load of floating lights and effects.
Using Wine 1.1.1.0, Eve Empyrian age, with Catalyst 8.6 drivers on an ATI 3850 card.
Picture of Punisher in front of Minmatar station, Planet models show fine though.

Do I still need the Elfe's patch (edit:or any other patch) and if so where can I get it from? I've tried all the links I could find but nothing seems to work.
I've installed and re-installed EVE now for quite many times.. both for wine and cedega. On Cedega I could actually play the game but space being white I decided to give wine another go.. Now I can't even get to the EULA part. Just a short blink on the startup screen. This is what I get when I run eve.exe
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc}could be created for context 0x1 I've done a lot of things suggested in here.. and I'm sure the answer is here somewhere but I'm quite new to linux so I'm not sure if I've done everything correctly.
If I remeber correctly I could get to the login screen before installing cedega and reinstalling wine and eve. So maybe I messed something up while doing that.
I'm using ATI's 8.4 drivers and wine 1.0
All suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thx.
get wine 1.1.0 and catalyst 8.6 and you don't need any patches as far as I can tell.
I installed wine 1.1.0, eve classic client, the arial font, directx redist package.
I can get ingame with no problem (at least into the station screen) but I have corrupted screen because of the wonderfull ati drivers (I have 8.5 as latest in the distro) :-( --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Originally by: Jamokc Ok. Problem solved.. at least one of them. I had messed up my wine directory and was missing some important files. Removed it and deleted all the files from the directory and reinstalled. So now I can run EVE and the graphics seem to be ok. (space is black and so on..) FPS seem to be on a decent level. The only problem I have now is the picture keeps breaking constantly, bringing parts of the desktop on top of the game graphics. I've set audio off, ran the REDISTD3DX file, moved arial to the fonts dir, and tried different cache settings. Should I copy some dll files that I might be missing, or regedit wine setting (adding some keys or something) Like you can probably see I'm pretty new to this so if you can give some advises please try to be as clear as possibly =) Oh and I should be running ati now with 8.6 drivers and I couldn't install wine 1.1
ah, wall of text, train paragraphs skill one more level :-)
there is a post above somewhere about wine registry settings to follow.
more than that, I can only help with general advice, as wine gives me screen corruptions :-( why couldn't you install wine 1.1 ? any errors ? --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

If you run amdcccle, what driver version is displayed on the information page ?
Driver version : 8.50.3
Catalyst Control Center Version : 1.1
OpenGL Provider : ATI Technologies Inc. Open GL Renderer : ATI Radeon HD 3850 OpenGL version : 2.1.7659 Release
And you have no screen corruption ?
This one is realy killing me. I can start the client, log in perfectly, the station environment works. I did not try to undock because I would have a tough time to get back with the corrupted screen.
I have the same as you do, just I have an older card (X1650XT).

Yep no corruption at all, inside the station back ground works, but your ship and the platform its supposed to hover over is invisible. Incase anyone was going to mention the official linux release from ccp with integrated cedega functions, I had far worse luck with it, I think I'm within touching distance of getting wine eve working great.
Anyway
That command yields the output.
Linux spindizzy-desktop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
Yeah sorry, never explained I'[m using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
I don't know whats useful to you there, though I see the kernel version. Had to have pci=nomsi permanently on to get it working past 2.6.24.16. :D (Searching the internet seems to indicate having no msi is nothing that should be too crucial to substantially affect general use)
Also I've upgraded Wine from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 today and ...not much difference, though I should be thankful, not out of the ordinary for updates sometimes to make some games much worse.
I've tried playing with the direct3d settings in the registry of the wine windows installation, got nothing doing really. So i'm going to try going back from the 8.6 drivers to 8.5 and see what they're like.
[Edit] Bugger! using older drivers didn't work, problem still there :-/ [/Edit]
So you are running a 32 bit Linux installation.
Seems the my ati driver has some problem working on 64bit platform. Or at least interfacing with a 32 bit program and a 32 bit library ... well I have to keep digging ... --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Thanks for the help. It didn't fix the problem with the flashing graphics but I'm sure it fixed something else.
After setting the registry keys I can fix graphics by applying window mode and applying full screen again. I think it's a problem with my x700 mobility...

In station my fps were about 40 or so, but he station was rendered very very badly. vertical bars everywhere... undocked fps were 4-6 but other than the station rendering everything appeared to be fine except he **** poor fps so decided to try wine.
First issue I had was the EULA screen appearing blank. searching for 4 hours here finally found me the install arial.ttf bit. did that.. low and behold the EULA appeared! Yay!
Log into the game running premium graphics and what do I see... 1/2 of my ship, bits and pieces of the station, and a lot of odd effects (i'm not a techno wiz so bear with my descriptions eh? lol). I decided to try standard graphics and everything looks and runs fine.... so far.
I have an amd athalon 2gig based system. nvidia 7600gt vid card(512 meg). 1.5 gigs ram. onboard VIA sound. I can deal with standard graphics but... well I am no nvidia card owner, but:
1. disable bloom. hdr. shadows 2. switch fullscreen to windowed and back
